The Monmouth County Park System is celebrating the state’s no-license-required-fishing weekend, June 15 & 16, with pole rentals, fishing clinics and derbies.

There’s nothing quite like the thrill of feeling a tug at the end of your fishing pole.  Discover for yourself when the Monmouth County Park System celebrates the state’s no-license-required-fishing weekend, June 15 & 16, with pole rentals, fishing clinics and derbies.  The schedule is as follows:

Freshwater Fishing Rentals   

Need a pole?  No problem.  Rods and reels will be available for rent ($5 a pole) from 2-6pm on Saturday, June 15 at the Manasquan Reservoir Visitor Center, Howell and from 12noon-6pm on Sunday, June 16 at Turkey Swamp Park, Freehold.  Bait will be available for purchase.

Hands-on Fishing Clinics 

Learn how to cast and rig during hands-on clinics from 12noon-2pm on Sunday, June 16 at Turkey Swamp Park.  Staff will happily answer any questions.

Freshwater Fishing Derby  

The Park System will host fishing derbies for beginners as well as experienced anglers.  The schedule is from 2-6:30pm on Saturday, June 15 at the Manasquan Reservoir and from 2-6:30pm on Sunday, June 16 at Turkey Swamp Park. Prizes awarded for the longest fish in three categories, see derby rules for details (provided upon registration). Advance registration accepted but not required. Cash or check only on site.  The fee is $8 per person.  Gear rentals available at both sites during the derbies.
